Class Theme: Creating Space

One of the most beautiful things a regular yoga practice brings is space. Space between breath, space in our joints for more easeful movement and of course space in our minds by quieting our thoughts and becoming more present. This class theme is devoted to creating more space in mind and body leaving us free to re-cover what is most important to us and dis-cover the path to allow our dreams to unfold.

The following theme can be used either for your own personal practice, or for your group classes or one on ones that you are teaching. Everything below is just a guide based on my thoughts and experiences in the moment. Feel free to change anything to better suit your teaching/practice style or so that it feels more authentic to you and your own teaching voice. Namasté

Theme: Creating Space

Quote:

“Wisdom comes from the ability to be still. Just look and listen. No more is needed. Being still, looking, and listening activates the non-conceptual intelligence within you. Let stillness direct your words and actions” – Eckhart Tolle

Sutras 1:2 “The restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff is Yoga.” + 1:3 “The the Seer (Self) abides in its own nature”

Physical Focus: Flow to release stagnant energy is an important part of this practice. Keep coming back to cat/cow throughout practice to release the spine.

Pranayama: Ujjayi (Whisper) Breath + Cleansing Breath (exhale from the mouth)

Niyama: Saucha – Purity/Cleanliness

Chakra: 7th Chakra: Crown Chakra/Surrender

Essential Oil*: Arise – Steadying Blend– Yoga Collection by DoTERRA Ingredients: Featuring Grapefruit, Lemon, Osmanthus, Melissa, and Siberian Fir essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Additional Notes:

There are so many elements to this theme that you can play on. My favourite is coming back to what Yoga really is (Sutra 1:2 above) or essentially when we create space in our mind thus finding clarity that is Yoga. The poses or movement, breath work even meditation is Yoga in practice. With constant practice (Sutra 1:14) we find this space more easily and feel a deeper connection to Self. At this point the whole world just becomes a little simpler.

My favourite Cue: In cat/cow “creating space between our vertebrae”
