Sangha Wellness Retreats

September 13-15, 2019

Why sangha? Sangha means community in Sanskrit. It is through community that we heal. We have a biological need to be around other people: for friendship, for love and to simply feel safe. Feeling a part of a community increases our immunity, our serotonin levels, gives us boosts of oxytocin (especially after a long hug) and raises our endorphins – all the chemicals we need to feel happy. Yet we isolate ourselves in our suffering, our ego telling us we are alone and that no one can understand what we are going through. This is simply not true. In addition, more and more research is being provided on somatic healing or working through the body to release trauma and chronic tension. Through various therapies such Yoga including breathing and meditation practices we take control back for our own healing and ultimately connection back to our Self. Peter Levine, a leading trauma therapist states: "Trauma is a fact of life, but it doesn’t need to be a life sentence." Check out this blog I wrote on The Impact of Holding Stress in Our Body and How to Heal

We've chosen two large cottages situated right on Georgian Bay on our own private beach with plenty of space for group discussions (satsang), yoga practices and sit-down meals. Plus, enjoy some quiet time to read, reflect, play in the water or other healing modalities designed just for you. All weekend activities are optional, allowing you to choose your own pace for healing and practice.

Co-led by husband and wife: Lisa Greenbaum E-RYT 500 + Certified Yoga Therapist and Bob Chuckman, MSW, licensed psychotherapist and 200hr Yoga Teacher. All meals prepared by Sarah Carroll, a Red Seal Chef and current executive chef at Hope Place Centres.

Yoga Retreat in Rishikesh India, Sattva Summit in conjunction with LiveUrYoga,

Journey to the Birthplace of Yoga

November 1-15, 2019 Rishikesh, India

Mother India is calling. After eight years, I am so excited to return to the birthplace of Yoga in Rishikesh, India. A must experience for all Yoga practitioners and teachers and those looking to deepen their practice.

We arrive in Delhi on the 1st and spend our first night there. The following morning we will discover the Ba'hai Temple (Lotus Temple) as well as visit Akshardam Ashram and the city center of Delhi. The next day we will head to Rishikesh−the birth place of yoga! The journey truly begins as we drive towards the Himalayas, taking in the countryside as we go and making stops along the way of our 6 hour drive. Once in Rishikesh, our residence is the Sattva Retreat Center, a beautiful oasis in the foothills of the mountains. We arrive early morning and spend the day getting settled in. Later that evening, we will enjoy a gentle practice to help ground us and a scrumptious vegetarian dinner.

Each day we begin with meditation and asana practice followed by a late breakfast.  After breakfast, we have free time and then reconvene later for wisdom circle with my teacher, Anand Mehortra of Sattva Yoga. Additionally, each day we will go on mini journeys visiting the different sites in the area, including the original Sivananda Ashram, Maharishi Mahesh Ashram (the Beatles' ashram), hiking to Kunjupuri (the divine mother temple), Vashista's Cave, and more. This is our daily schedule until the Sattva Summit begins. This is the 2nd annual summit where we will get guidance from Tommy Rosen, Kia Miller, Gurumukh, and Anand Mehortra, including Kirtan, daily practice, and more.

The retreat center also has an Ayurvedic spa where you can request time with an Ayurvedic practitioner plus experience numerous ayurvedic healing treatments (shyrodana, abhyanga, swedish massage, etc.).

As we make our return, we stop at the Taj Mahal for our last couple of days before returning to Delhi. We depart for Canada early on the morning of November 15th.

Please let us know where you are travelling from as we will make attempts for us all to be on same or similar flights both in and out of Delhi.

Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica at the Navina Retreat Centre, Journey to Self: chakra balancing self love

A Journey to Self - Yoga Retreat

April 14-20, 2020: Palma Sur, Costa Rica

Immerse your Self in the lush tropics of Costa Rica. Lisa Greenbaum is very excited to be hosting this nourishing retreat with us at Navina. We’re located in the mountains near Palmar Sur, a short hike to beaches, waterfalls and the jungle. This ultimate Yogi vacation is an opportunity to deepen your yoga practice both on and off the mat with daily meditations, personal reflection time, yoga classes, satsangs (philosophy discussions), excursions and more. One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is time and space. Taking a moment to step away from our day-to-day responsibilities allows us the opportunity to build deeper connections with ourselves, our community (sangha) and the natural world around us. Dedicating quality time to our practice will help to foster personal growth, self-love and healing.

Each day of our retreat will draw us deeper into the theme of Nourish and Nurture. Building and honouring self-care practices through chakra work, mantra meditation and a range of physical practices from stronger, more athletic practices to the healing practices of Yin and Restorative. Experience with Yoga is not required.

  • 6-night accommodations (shared)
  • Daily Vegetarian Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Transportation to and from Palmar Sur for connecting bus or flight
  • All excursions included in the retreat itinerary
  • Daily yoga and meditation practices
