What is Yoga Therapy?

“Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process, where the care-seeker, with the help of the Yoga therapist, implements a personalized and evolving Yoga practice, that not only addresses the illness in a multi-dimensional manner, but also aims to alleviate his/her suffering in a progressive, non-invasive and complementary manner. ” – TKV Desikachar + Kausthaub Desikachar

Yoga Therapy utilizes the practices from the 8 limbs of Yoga including breath practices, Yoga poses, meditation and mantra work personalized towards the needs of the individual. Yoga Therapy works holistically with the aim to create balance across all energy bodies: physical, vital, emotional, mental and our deepest connection to Self or bliss body for overall wellness.

Through the practice of Yoga, we find a connection to Self. When we feel connected to Self, we feel more connected to others, our community at large and the world around us.

In using Yoga as a healing modality we work through the body somatically. Slowly unravelling the chronic stress, tension and pain we carry with us through mindful movement patterns with an emphasis on hip and spinal mobility. Grounding and connecting back to our body, with specific techniques to reduce anxiety and depression. Taking charge of our health and healing from the inside out.
